The Jacob Zuma Foundation has announced that former ANC President Jacob Zuma will consult with his legal team regarding his expulsion from the ANC. This follows the ANC's decision on Friday to uphold Zuma's expulsion after he appealed the ruling by the partys National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal.
Zuma was expelled earlier this year after founding the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, a move seen by many as a challenge to the ANC, which, if successful, could lead to the party losing its parliamentary majority for the first time in 30 years.
In a statement, Zuma's spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi, reaffirmed the former presidents rejection of the expulsion. "His Excellency President Zuma strongly rejects the notion that the ANC under the leadership of President Cyril Ramaphosa has the authority to expel him from the movement to which he has dedicated his life," Manyi said.
Zuma is expected to consult with his legal team, his ANC representative Comrade Tony Yengeni, his family, and political allies to decide on the next steps. "Once a decision has been reached, it will be communicated to the nation by H.E. President Zuma," Manyi added, indicating that further statements will be made in due course.
The situation has added fuel to the ongoing tensions within the ANC and the broader political landscape, with Zuma's supporters arguing that his expulsion is politically motivated and undermines his legacy within the party.
