A lone hiker who went missing in the Western Cape mountains has been reunited with his family after being caught in the heat over the weekend, Cape town Etc reports.

Dedicated Wilderness Search and Rescue WSAR teams and volunteers descended on the old Du Toitskloof Pass on Saturday afternoon to help local SAPS in their search for the hiker who had been reported missing by his family earlier that day.

After tracing his vehicle to a location on the pass, the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS Drone Unit, along with members of the K9 Search and Rescue Association of South Africa, undertook a carefully planned search of the region.

The weary hiker was discovered just after 7pm on Saturday evening. He was treated for heat-related ailments and then transported from the mountain to a waiting ambulance before being driven to the hospital.

We urge all outdoor enthusiasts to follow the safety tips for hot-weather wilderness activities,' said David Nel, spokesperson for WSAR.
