Top Nigerian athletes, including world record holder Tobi Amusan in the womens 100m hurdles, Olympic high jump bronze medallist Ese Brume, rising 100m star Favour Ofili, and others, have been given the chance to compete for a 150,000 prize at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship. The event will take place in Budapest, Hungary, from September 11 to 13, 2026.
The World Athletics Ultimate Championship aims to redefine the athletics calendar by bringing together the best athletes in the world, including Olympic champions, world champions, Wanda Diamond League winners, and the years top performers. The championship will feature 28 events across three days of competition, with 16 disciplines in total, including 26 individual events 16 track and 10 field events and two relays, such as the new mixed 4x100m.
Among the events are the 100m, long jump, 800m, triple jump women, 1500m, hammer throw men, 5000m, javelin, 100m/110m hurdles, mixed 4x100m, 400m hurdles, and mixed 4x400m. With a record prize pool of 10 million, champions will receive 150,000 each.
