The Western Cape Government (WCG) has welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa's signing of the Climate Change Act, emphasising the need for prompt action.
MEC Anton Bredell highlighted the Acts importance in protecting the environment and promoting economic growth.
The legislation reflects our commitment to environmental protection and economic opportunities. We aim to build a resilient Western Cape that can handle climate change challenges, Bredell said.
Premier Alan Winde noted the provinces vulnerability to climate impacts such as droughts, floods and coastal erosion.
He stressed the need to balance growth with environmental sustainability and expressed a desire to collaborate with other coastal provinces on climate issues.
