We Will Never Allow Forced Removals Again In This Country: Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the countrys constitution prohibits any expropriation of land without compensation where there are no just and equitable grounds.

Ramaphosa was replying to the two-day debate on the State of the Nation Address.

US President Donald Trump has used the Expropriation Act as one of his reasons to cut aid to the country.

Ramaphosa dismissed suggestions that the South African government is implementing land expropriation without a just cause.

"The people of this country know the pain of forced removals. That is why we will never allow the forced removals again in this country. And that is why we have the constitution that prohibits the arbitrary deprivation of property. That is why we have the constitution that requires just and equitable compensation to be paid in the event of expropriation for a public purpose, in the public interest where applicable.
