The Western Cape Education Department WCED has called on residents not to rush to conclusions after at least 20 pupils from Mzamomtsha Primary School in Driftsands were rushed to a clinic with stomach cramps on Wednesday morning, Cape town Etc reports.

According to EWN , WCEDs Bronagh Hammond confirmed that 18 of the learners have subsequently been discharged.

She said that the causes were not confirmed at this stage, adding that the department would wait for authorities to conclude their assessments amid false reports of food poisoning in recent weeks.

In a similar instance, News24 reports that around 100 students from Tamaho Primary School in Katlehong, Gauteng, were treated at several clinics and hospitals on Wednesday for a suspected foodborne disease.

According to Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona, the children began feeling stomach aches and vomiting after ingesting samp during break time.
