A new water taxi service will connect Balis I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to the islands coastal resorts by the end of the year, helping to combat the islands road traffic crisis.

Deputy Minister for Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi , revealed that the programme would be operational by December and would connect tourists to Kuta, Seminyak, and Uluwatu, according to thebalisun.com .

Trials, using traditional jukung boats, indicated that travel time between the airport and Seminyak and Uluwatu was 35-40 minutes.

When the programme is officially launched, motorised boats will be used, reducing the travel time to around 25-30 minutes.

By road, travel to these destinations could be 30 minutes to over an hour depending on the traffic.
