Watch Teen Sprint Prodigy Gout Gout Obliterates Senior Australian 200m Record, Faster Than Usain Bolt At The Same Age
Australian sprinting sensation Gout Gout set a new benchmark on Saturday by clocking the fastest time ever run by a 16-year-old, breaking the national 200m record and achieving something even Usain Bolt never did.
The teenager raced to an incredible 20.04 seconds at the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships in Brisbane, shattering the previous national record of 20.06 set by Peter Norman at the 1968 Olympics.
Gout has drawn comparisons to Bolt in local media, and World Athletics confirmed that his time is the fastest ever recorded by a 16-year-old in the 200m.
In addition, Gout now holds the second-fastest time in history for athletes under 18, surpassing Bolt's previous mark of 20.13.
"These are adult times, and here I am, just a kid, running them. Its going to be a great future for sure," said Gout, who was born in Brisbane to South Sudanese parents who migrated to Australia.
