South Africas Glenrose Xaba claimed the womens race in the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon this morning, breaking Elana Meyers national marathon record, Cape town Etc reports.
What made this achievement all the more impressive is the fact that this was Xaba's debut event at 42.2km, finishing in 22222.
Kenyas Pascalia Chepkogei finished third, while Ethiopias Mara Dibaba Hurssa finished second, 14 seconds behind Xaba.
With a time of 20816, Ethiopian Adisa Tola Adera broke Stephen Mokokas track record to win the 2024 Sanlam Marathon. Ethiopia swept the podium, with Adane Gebre followed by Mitku Tafa Dekeba in third.
Competing in the wheelchair race, Japans Sho Watanabe was the first over the line in a time of 13733
