Wade Young has cemented his place as one of South Africa's enduro greats by winning his ninth 2024 Roof of Africa title, equaling the all-time record held by the legendary Alfie Cox. The 28-year-old demonstrated exceptional endurance and technical skill over the 350-kilometer course, which tested riders across three intense days on Lesothos rugged terrain. This year, the course featured virgin territory sections that added to the challenge.
Despite fierce competition, Young triumphed in the Gold Class category, finishing victorious on Saturday. Reflecting on his achievement, Young expressed how surreal it felt to match Coxs record, stating, "Hes been a hero and inspiration to me throughout my career. To stand alongside him in the history books is an honor I never imagined when I first raced here at 16."
Winning the Lesotho event has always held a special significance for Young, and this victory further solidifies his legacy in enduro racing.
