Virgin Limited Edition Reveals Plans For Revamped Safari Camp In Kenya
Virgin Limited Edition has announced a full interior refurbishment of its tented safari camp, Mahali Mzuri, in Kenyas Maasai Mara. The camp, currently closed, will reopen in June 2025 with 12 completely redesigned luxury tent interiors and communal areas enhancing the guest experience while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding environment and Maasai culture.
The redesign led by interior design company Lynne Hunt London will retain the tented structures while incorporating a modern interpretation of African style. Natural materials, earthy tones and vibrant red and black accents symbolic of traditional Maasai attire will feature prominently. A curated collection of contemporary works by East African artists will also be displayed throughout the camp.
Individual tents, including a dedicated family tent, will be redesigned with open-plan layouts, expansive wraparound windows and terraces offering panoramic views of the Maasai Mara. The communal spaces including the dining tent, bar, lounge and open firepit will continue to serve as hubs for social gatherings and wildlife observation.
General Manager Wilson Odhiambo expressed his enthusiasm for the project: This refurbishment will deepen our guests connection with Mahali Mzuris stunning surroundings and incredible wildlife. We are proud to integrate local Maasai culture and craftsmanship into the new design, celebrating elements like custom beadwork and bronze spear finials.
Mahali Mzuris reopening in June 2025 will coincide with the lead-up to the annual Great Migration when wildebeest travel from Loita Hills to the Serengeti. The camp was originally conceived to protect the migration route and surrounding land.
