Firefighters are still battling to contain a fire that is burning in the Silvermine Section of Table Mountain National Park, between Tokai and Noordhoek, in the Southern Peninsula.

Around 200 households, including dozens of frail care residents in Noordhoek, have been evacuated as a precautionary measure due to the fire.

The public has been urged to avoid the area.

The City of Cape Town Fire Rescue Service says vehicles caught fire in the Silvermine parking lot amid the ongoing fire in the Upper Tokai in Table Mountain National Park , which has affected several areas.

Spokesperson Jamaine Carelse says residents of Barnyard and Silwersteen have decided to evacuate their households. Carelse says the Tokai fire area has been divided into five to maximise capacity and surround the fire, taking into account the wind speed and direction.
