The United States government, yesterday, said nearly 4.5 billion had been mobilised for on-grid and off-grid power projects in Nigeria, and over 200 private companies in the off-grid sector have received assistance through its Power Africa Initiative. While World Resources Institute WRI reports that over 85 million Nigerians lack access to electricity, making Nigeria the country with the highest number of citizens living without electricity provision, U.S. Agency for International Development USAID said its programme had already connected over 33 million Nigerians with 4.5 billion.
