The United Rugby Championship have dismissed reports that they were involved in talks of a merger between themselves and the English Premiership.
On Friday, the UKs reported that URC and Premiership chiefs met during last years Rugby World Cup to discuss a potential merger that would see South African and Italian teams out in the cold.
According to the report, talks had resumed over the creation of a British and Irish competition.
However, the URC hit back late on Friday, saying that the reports were unsubstantiated.
Contrary to media reports, the United Rugby Championship is not engaged in discussions regarding a British Irish league, the URC said in a statement late on Friday.
