Seven people have been killed at Highflats in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda has confirmed that children were among the victims who were massacred in one house.
Premier Thami Ntuli has called on police in the province to leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators to book.
"We remain dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in KwaZulu-Natal. We wish to pass our message of condolences to the people affected by this tragic incident," Ntuli says.
Top police officials and provincial leaders are expected to visit the scene on Thursday.
