Update: Oudtshoorn Wildfire Rages: Firefighters Ramp Up Efforts

Advantageous weather conditions have contributed to curbing excessive spread of the Swartberg Mountains fire. Short active lines were reported to remain alight in Division Yankee and Division Zulu but both have been deemed to be manageable as a result of the cooler weather conditions.

Division Charlie, located in the Central Karoo, has been reported to be cold while Division Alpha has been contained for the past 3 days.

These divisions however will be continually monitored over the next two days and any flare ups are to be suppressed.

The video above was recorded on Saturday 4 January. It captures the early and strategic utilisation of aerial firefighting resources in Division Yankee. Intervention included the suppression of most of the eastern fire line and the deployment of firefighters up the mountain. A total of 54 ground crew members and supervisors were ultimately deployed.
