Update Danny Jordaan Expected In Court Over Alleged Fraud Charges

With pressure mounting on Danny Jordaan to step down as South African Football Association president, the 73-year-old sport administrator is expected to appear in court this morning on charges of fraud and theft amounting to R1.3 million.

The case will be heard in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court in Ekurhuleni. Jordaan is alleged to have used federation funds to appoint a communications company to improve his image after he was accused of rape by former ANC MP, Jennifer Ferguson.

He also allegedly hired a security company for personal protection.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, The Hawks, could add more charges, including issues surrounding the 100 million dollar 2010 FIFA World Cup Legacy Trust.

Jordaan will reportedly be in court alongside SAFA CFO Gronie Hluyo and Trevor Neethling, the director of the agency the SAFA president allegedly contracted unlawfully.
