The Wilgenhof Alumni Association says it is disappointed that the Stellenbosch University Council is continuing with what they say is the universitys irrational handling of the Wilgenhof matter.
The Association says the Councils response to the levelled allegations of impropriety against the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wim de Villiers, and Chairperson of Council, Dr Nicky Newton-King relating to the Wilgenhof report has been, inaction.
Wilgenhof Alumini Association spokesperson, Jaco Rabie, says the association is pursuing legal action to have the report and all decisions based on it set aside, and may expand their case to include recent council decisions.
The Council meeting was the second time SU decided to abandon its own processes out of political expediency. First, when the Wilgenhof report didnt give the answers they wanted, the Rector and Council Chair simply decided it should be amended. And now, when Council is faced with the highly inconvenient findings of a panel, they themselves appointed, they just wave it away as if its a minor nuisance. But Councils inaction will have severe and lasting consequences.
