The South African Football Players Union SAFPU has vowed to take all necessary steps to get the attention of the South African Football Association SAFA leadership regarding the issue of unpaid match bonuses. Both the men's national team, Bafana Bafana, and the women's national team, Banyana Banyana, have not received their bonuses since September, with SAFA allegedly owing the players approximately R6 million.
This situation comes at a time when SAFA President Danny Jordaan is facing legal troubles. He is due to appear for a second time at the Specialized Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge on charges of fraud and theft. Jordaan, who is 73, is accused of misusing R1.3 million of SAFA funds for personal gain. The charges against him also include using the funds irregularly to hire a communications company to manage his image following rape allegations made by former African National Congress ANC MP Jennifer Ferguson.
