Uj Students March To Sabc Demanding Justice For 7-year-old

Despite the rainy and gloomy weather, students from the University of Johannesburg UJ took to the streets, marching to the South African Broadcasting Corporation SABC to demand justice for a 7-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted in October 2024 while waiting for her transport at school.

According to a representative from UJs Student Representative Council SRC, the students chose to march to the SABC to amplify the case and ensure it receives the national attention it deserves. They believe media coverage will not only highlight the gravity of the crime but also put pressure on authorities to expedite investigations.

As the EFF Student Command EFFSC of UJ, we believe that if this matter is covered by the national broadcaster, more victims who are afraid to speak out will find the courage to come forward because they will feel represented, says EFFSC member Yamukeleka Gumede.

SRC Deputy President Amantle Mokau echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that their fight extends beyond this one case.

We don't only want justice for the 7-year-old victim but also for all survivors of gender-based violence GBV. It's time for young people to stand up and speak with one voice against these atrocities.
