The 56km ultra-marathon, along with the half-marathon and trail races, has grown to become a major international attraction. The latest figures show a remarkable rise in the number of participants, especially from outside South Africa, with 4 500 international athletes joining the festivities.
Leading the charge is Namibia, sending 839 runners, followed by Zimbabwe with 798. The United Kingdom rounds out the top five with 337 runners participating.
