Two Dead As Heavy Rainfall Hits Kwazulu-natal, Flood Risk Continues

The Department of Co-operative Governance in KwaZulu-Natal says the provincial disaster management centre is coordinating response efforts following two nights of heavy rainfall. Mop-up operations are underway in various areas, including eThekwini.
At least two people have lost their lives as the result of the disruptive weather. A level 4 weather warning for disruptive rainfall remains in effect for the province, indicating a continued risk of flooding of roads, bridges, and low-lying areas.
Provincial COGTA spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila elaborates:
On Thursday, incidents took place, a 54-year-old woman died in Pinetown after being swept away while crossing a bridge. And in Vikimithi in Umlalazi local municipality in 16 there was a lightning strike which resulted in the death of a 10-year-old girl and injuries to other family members who are receiving treatment in hospital. The MEC has wished them a speedy recovery, and he has urged motorists to drive with caution as the roads are slippery. Disaster management teams will continue to monitor areas that are prone to weather-related incidents.
