Tshisekedi Vows To Reclaim Goma From M23 Rebels: Muyaya
The Democratic Republic of the Congos Minister of Communications Patrick Muyaya Katembwe says DRC President Felix Tshisekedi has vowed to reclaim Goma from the M23 rebels.
In a televised address to the nation, on Wednesday, Tshisekedi said a vigorous and coordinated response against what he called terrorists was under way. He criticised the international community for inaction and for not doing enough in the wake of the escalating security crisis.
Muyaya Katembwe has unpacked some of the issues on the ground following the escalation of violence in which 13 South African National Defence Force SANDF soldiers were killed last week amid clashes between the DRC army and M23 rebels. The situation has worsened in the eastern part of the country as M23 rebels have captured the strategic city of Goma.
South Africa and Tanzania are among the countries taking part in the SADC-led mission to bring peace to eastern DRC.
