South Africas Nedbank Cup continued on Wednesday evening, as TS Galaxy crushed lower league opponents Vasco da Gama 7-0 to unofficially complete the Last 32 round.
The Rockets triumphed at the Mbombela Stadium courtesy of goals from Dzenan Zajmovic two, Keagan Dolly, Marks Munyai, Thokozani Sibanyoni two and Damir Sovsic, closing out a run of 15 matches across six days which brought no headline-grabbing upsets, breaking the usual trend in this equivalent of Englands FA Cup.
The weekends headline results saw the big three of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs all safely advance. The Brazilians defeated third-tier Sibanye Golden Stars 5-2 at home the Buccaneers overpowered Richards Bay 3-1 away inspired by a brace from Patrick Maswanganyi and Chiefs avoided a banana skin against minnows Free Agents with a comfortable 4-0 triumph at the FNB Stadium.
The weekend also saw Chippa United edge fellow Premiership side Golden Arrows Marumo Gallants got the better of Pretoria Callies Durban City, Baroka FC, Cape Town Spurs and Polokwane City all secured expected victories and lower-league Mpheni Home Defenders upset second-tier Hungry Lions 3-1 courtesy of goals from Rophney Hlungwane, Brendon Mokgope and Halatedzi Matumba.
The Last 32 action continued into the working week, with Monday bringing a 2-0 win for Sekhukhune United over fellow Premiership side Cape Town City while Tuesday saw top flight clubs AmaZulu FC with a hat-trick from Sandile Mthethwa and Stellenbosch FC overcome lower league opponents Mighty Eagles and Kruger United respectively as well as a 2-0 win for SuperSport United over Carling Knockout champions Magesi FC.
