Troubled Ditsobotla Municipality Fails To Meet Service Delivery Needs
The troubled Lichtenburg-based Ditsobotla Local Municipality in the North West is still not functioning as expected and cannot meet its statutory obligations of providing services to the residents.
This is despite the intervention from the Provincial Government providing administrative and financial support to the ailing municipality.
The intervention was as a result of challenges related to finances of the municipality.
However, according to Local Government MEC, Gaoage Molapisi, the municipal council has rejected the latest assistance from them aimed at dealing with administrative challenges.
We seconded about five to six people for legal services, for performance management system, for service delivery, security and corporate services. Unfortunately, I am told that council rejected this noble course which is provided for in the constitution because we are not only expected to intervene and take powers or dissolve municipalities, but we are equally so expected to support, and this is what we were trying to do.
