Transport Dept Strongly Opposes Current Raf, Ag Litigation Hlengwa

The Ministry of Transport says given the economic pressures facing the country, the Road Accident Funds reliance solely on fuel levy is not sustainable.

However, the big elephant in the room is the litigation between the Fund and the Office of the Auditor General after it changed its accounting standard.

The matter is still before the court and so far has cost RAF more than R10 million.

The Deputy Minister of Transport Mkhuleko Hlengwa says the department is deeply opposed to the current litigation over its accounting standard.

Hlengwa says, It remains the position of the ministry that after 3 court judgments against the RAF on the accounting standard matter that continuing on the part of appeals would be recklessness and irresponsible and not in the collective interest of the RAF.
