Township Businesses Want Boost From Government

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana is expected to present the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement tomorrow.

The township spaza economy has recently been a hot topic with increasing tensions between local communities and foreign nationals who operate spaza shops in Gauteng.

Local communities and entrepreneurs say they have no market space in the spaza shop business.

Government should assist our people financially. We used to run these businesses properly but the government needs to assist. They have huge unemployment in the township when township business is supposed to be creating jobs. You see, it is unfortunate, but its not something that cannot be looked into and for it to be reversed. Obviously, its going to be difficult and its all about how we support young entrepreneurs and make them conscious of the fact that they are also part of this economy.

Meanwhile, some economists predict that Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana is likely to push for greater fiscal discipline and controlled spending when he delivers the MTBPS.
