The Trump administration is scrambling to explain how a top journalist ended up in a private Signal group chat where senior US officials were reportedly discussing military action in Yemen.

Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic , revealed in an interview with ABC News Live that he was unintentionally added to a digital conversation where government leaders were exchanging information about a US attack on Houthi forces.

On Monday, Goldberg revealed that National Security Adviser Mike Waltz seemingly included him in a Signal group chat named Houthi PC small group.

His immediate reaction was disbelief. 'I think Ive just uncovered a serious national security breach,' he told ABC Prime . At first, he suspected a hoax, but when the events discussed in the chat unfolded exactly as described, he realised the gravity of the situation.

I was in a Safeway parking lot, staring at my phone and thinking, 'Oh my God, this could be real,' Goldberg told CNN on Monday. I believe Pete Hegseth just shared genuine targeting details and the sequence of an attack with the group.
