tiger woods withdraws from genesis invitational after mums demise

Golf superstar Tiger Woods announced on Monday that he will not compete in this week's Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines as planned following the recent passing of his mother.

Woods had committed to playing in the tournament, his first professional appearance in seven months. However, in a statement shared on social media, he explained he was "just not ready" to return.

"I planned to tee it up this week, but I'm just not ready," Woods said. "I did my best to prepare, knowing it's what my Mum would have wanted, but I'm still processing her loss."

He expressed gratitude for the support he has received and mentioned he hopes to visit Torrey Pines later in the week.

The 15-time major champion last competed in a non-major PGA Tour event at the Genesis last February, where he withdrew after one round due to illness .
