Gauteng police say three men have been killed in a suspected case of mob justice in Sebokeng, south of the province.

Officers have opened a case involving three counts of murder.

Police say the trio had allegedly robbed and killed a 29-year-old man from the same neighbourhood, prompting the community.

Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says, The community was mobilised and went searching for the suspects. They found them hiding inside a container and took them to Sebokeng Zone-12 where they assaulted and burned them. All three vigilantism victims were certified dead on the scene. Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has strongly condemned this act of vigilantism."
