Those Who Violate Mideast Ceasefire Agreement Must Account: Mokonyane
The ANCs first Deputy Secretary-General Nomvula Mokonyane says any party that will violate the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas must be held accountable.
She says legal processes must commence to ensure a lasting peace in the Middle East. This comes after the United States of America, Qatar and Egypt brokered a ceasefire between the two warring parties.
Nomvula says this is the base to implement the International Court of Justice rulings.
When the Israeli government says they have not received or have not committed so far, I think what is of importance is that those that facilitated must hold both parties accountable. As the African National Congress, we believe that the legal processes through the international institutions and other multinational platforms must proceed so that somebody, a country and affected individuals must also be held accountable.
Meanwhile, the South African government has welcomed the ceasefire agreement after 15 months of a ferocious war that left over 40 000 people killed in Gaza since Hamas launched an incursion against Israel.
