Tariff Hike Coming For Telecoms, But Limited, Says Tijani

Nigeria's Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, has announced that the Nigerian Communications Commission NCC will soon introduce new guidelines for adjusting tariffs within the telecommunications sector.

He pointed out, however, that the increase implemented would not meet the 100 request made by telecom operators.

During a stakeholder meeting with Mobile Network Operators MNOs on Wednesday, Tijani said that ongoing consultations and discussions are taking place regarding this matter, and the Nigerian Communications Commission NCC will soon finalise and publicly announce the new tariffs for Nigeria.

The Minister underscored the importance of ensuring the telecommunications sector is well-organised to establish the proper regulations required for its growth.

"We aim to find a balance as a government, to safeguard our citizens while also ensuring that these companies can continue to make significant investments," he stated.
