At the same time, Table Mountain itself is also up for another global title - World's Leading Tourist Attraction. The competition is hosted by the World Travel Awards.
The World Travel Awards is the Oscars for the tourism and hospitality sector. We need everyone in South Africa to help us win these two coveted awards - this will be a first if we win them, says Selma Hercules, executive director for the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company TMACC.
Competition in the World's Leading Cable Car Ride category is tough.
Nominated alongside TMACC are the Cable Car at Sun World Ba Na Hills in Vietnam, the Disney Skyliner Cable Car in America, Mi Teleferico in Bolivia, Parque Bondinho Po de Acucar in Brazil, PEAK 2 PEAK 360 in Canada, Skyline Queenstown in New Zealand, and last year's category winner the Wings of Tatev in Armenia.
