KwaZulu-Natal Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says they are investigating the possibility that six suspects, killed in a police shootout in Durban last night, may be connected to murders related gang rivalry in the city.

The suspects were killed when they opened fire on the police at a holiday accommodation near the Durban beachfront.

They were suspected of murdering at least two groups of people in the Durban metro since Friday, as well as a business robbery.

Netshiunda says the suspects were allegedly also extorting money from people.

We believe that there are rival gangs that are also fighting each other because in the incident in Hammersdale, we are led to believe that the people who were killed were part of another group who are extorting money from businesses. So it could be that they are fighting for the turf and drugs as well.
