Suspected Extortionist Killed In Shootout With E Cape Police

A 31-year-old man has been killed in a shootout with police in Ngqamakhwe in the Eastern Cape. Police spokesperson Siphokazi Mawisa says crime intelligence received a tip-off that the suspects were involved in robberies and extortion in the area . They received information that the suspects were traveling in a minibus taxi and planned to collect money from businesses in Ngqamakhwe. Mawisa says, One suspect was fatally shot and the others fled the scene in the quantum and are still at large. Upon investigation, police recovered a firearm and it was confiscated. The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene is sending a stern warning to the perpetrators that police are squashing crime and guaranteeing the community a crime-free zone, adds Mawisa.
