Suspect Arrested In Walter Sisulu University Shooting Incident

The Eastern Cape South African Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the tragic shooting incident that took place at Walter Sisulu University WSU on Tuesday, Cape town Etc reports.
The suspect, a 54-year-old man, was apprehended today, 17 April 2025, in Mthatha and faces serious charges of murder and attempted murder.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana detailed the charges against the suspect, stating, He is due to appear in court on 22 April 2025, While this arrest marks a significant milestone in the unfolding case, authorities have made it clear that the investigation remains ongoing.

The arrest follows the heartbreaking death of a WSU student, Sisonke Mbolekwa, who was shot during a protest for better accommodation facilities at the Mthatha campus.
