GM Defense has independently developed its Next Generation Tactical Vehicle as an option to replace the Humvee High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle HMMWV fielded in the 1980s.
The Next Gen combines GMs 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel engine with a 12-module battery pack, in addition to drive motors for the front and rear axles that enable Silent Drive, which makes the vehicles harder to detect.
The prototype has up to 480km 300 miles of silent range with the engine recharging the batteries twice.
GM offers the prototype in two-, four-, and six-seat configurations based on the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Next Gens wow factor is right behind the wheel, GM Defense Government Solutions and Strategy Division VP John Johnson explained. Customers need to drive this highly capable vehicle to see, feel, and hear the benefits.
