A special provincial funeral for struggle poet, James Matthews , is taking place at the St Georges Cathedral today.
Matthews passed away in Cape Town at the age of 95 last week.
He was a recipient of the Presidential Order of Ikhamanga. Matthews was born in District Six.
He started working as a journalist and wrote for a variety of publications including the Golden City Post and Drum magazine.
He also served as the de facto news editor of the Muslim News newspaper in Cape Town.
