Steenhuisen Sets Record Straight Regarding Bee Allegations

Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen says he has no idea what the motive is for the allegations levelled against him by Sakeliga, an organisation opposing BEE.

He says the narrative being spread must not affect trade relations for South Africa.

Steenhuisen was speaking at a press briefing in Parliament earlier today, which he called, to counter the allegation that he has established several BEE funds since becoming minister.

Steenhuisen says there are more important matters to deal with, like food security.

"The facts will be put on the table and the facts will get out there, and I hope in doing so, it will serve to discourage those who take snippets of information, twist them to suit their own narrative and in time create false narratives to suit their own ends. As I said the focus is on making sure that we grow the agricultural sector. And we create a fair opportunity for everybody in the sector to be able to participate accepting where we come from the challenges that we have to overcome."
