Steenhuisen Says Citizens Should Not Accept Dry Taps

The Democratic Alliance DA has called on citizens not to accept water shortages as the new normal in the country.

The party held a briefing today outside the South Hills Water Tower, south of Johannesburg, an area that has experienced recurring and prolonged water outages for years.

The DA warned that the country is facing a growing crisis of reduced clean water supply, driven by poor infrastructure maintenance, corruption, and the collapse of municipalities.

DA leader John Steenhuisen stated that only in DA-run municipalities do citizens receive reliable water services. He urged people to use the 2026 elections to bring better services to their communities.

The DA also called for collaboration between all levels of government and large industries to address the severe water crisis in parts of the country.
