State Opposes Bail For Officer In Alleged Six-murder Fraud Case

The state prosecutor in the case of a police officer accused of allegedly killing six people for insurance fraud informed the Polokwane Magistrates Court in Limpopo that the state is opposing bail.

43-year-old Sergeant Rachel Kutumela is also facing 17 charges of fraud and defeating the end of justice.

The case has been postponed to next Friday for a bail application.

Prosecutor Kgaukgelo Lekoloane says Kutumela is facing schedule six charges as the murders were premeditated.

We believe this matter is schedule six in that it involves the premeditated murder of about six counts of murder including the fraud charges including the defeating the ends of justice charge. The position of the state is that this bail application is opposed we have identified the 18th of October as the date where we will be able to proceed with this bail application.
