Springboks Sponsorship Shake-up: Fnb Set To Step In As Sa Rugby And Mtn End 8-year Partnership

springboks sponsorship shakeup fnb set to step in as sa rugby and mtn end 8year partnership

SA Rugby announced on Tuesday that the sponsorship agreement between MTN and the Springboks has come to an end after eight years.

MTN came on as the Springboks lead sponsor in 2017 when the team was going through a tough time. The telecommunications companys faith in the Bok brand was rewarded when Rassie Erasmus and Siya Kolisi guided the team to back-to-back Rugby World Cup triumphs in 2019 and 2023.

MTNs faith was truly inspiring when they first came on board during those dark days. Of course, rugby would grind to a halt without the unwavering support of our partners. MTN led the way in this regard, and we wish them every success in the future.

According to reports, First National Bank FNB, whose logo appears on the back of the Springboks jersey, will move to the front as they take over as the teams headline sponsor. FNB are already the headline sponsor of the Springbok Women.

Sportswire reports that due to the new sponsorship, the Springboks could be scheduled to play more games at the FNB Stadium, currently the home of Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs . This is unlikely to happen this year, though, as the team's match schedule has already been finalised.
