Local animal rescue groups like Saving Sage Animal Rescue are stepping up to care for pets in need and find them new homes. Among those looking for a second chance are Mary and Marlon, two cuddly cats with heartbreaking stories.

"They went through Hurricane Milton, kind of like we did," said Jacey Birch, Local 10's animal advocate. "Their families lost everything in the tornado and were desperate to find them a safe place."

Saving Sage Animal Rescue in South Florida is currently home to dozens of animals like Mary and Marlon. The organization not only provides shelter but also ensures all animals are sterilized before adoption to help curb the overpopulation problem in the region.
