South African Fans Hold Vigils To Honour Liam Payne

In response to the tragic death of Liam Payne , South African fans have come together to organise vigils to celebrate the former One Direction stars life, Cape town Etc reports.

Local Directioners have invited fellow fans to join in these heartfelt tributes. Attendees are encouraged to wear red or purple and to bring flowers, letters, photos, posters, or balloons to express their remembrance.

Memorials are set to take place across various cities on 26 October: in Johannesburg at James and Ethel Gray Park at 1pm, in Midrand at Waterfall City Park at 2pm, in Benoni at Homestead Lake at 1pm, and in Cape Town at Sea Point Beach at 1pm. Durban fans can gather at Chris Saunders Park at 2pm.

Additionally, the fan page lt.hs.southafrica will be broadcasting live from Melrose. Liam Payne passed away at the age of 31 on 16 October, 2024, following a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. His death sparked an outpouring of grief from family, friends, and fans worldwide.

Investigations indicated he may have been experiencing a substance-related crisis at the time. An autopsy revealed he suffered from multiple traumas and internal and external haemorrhaging due to the fall. Payne first gained fame as a teenager in the wildly popular boy band One Direction, formed in 2010 after the groups members competed on The X Factor.
