Sona Failed To Address Land Issue: Contralesa
The Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa Contralesa says President Cyril Ramaphosa failed to respond to their call to address the land issue during his State of the Nation Address SONA.
Ramaphosa delivered his SONA address at a joint sitting of Parliament on Thursday at the Cape Town City Hall,
Contralesa President Kgosi Mathupa Mokoena says Ramaphosa also failed to unpack how his government is going to work with traditional leaders.
Mokoena says, Contralesa notes the address by the President during SONA. We welcome the fact that for the first time in 30 years, something was said about traditional institutions and traditional leaders. Unfortunately, the President did not unpack it and tell us how are they going to work with traditional leaders.
He says, Contralesas concern though is that the President did not say much about land. We expected the President to go to town on how and when is land that was taken away from our people forcefully will be returned back to those original owners. Some of the legitimate claimants or beneficiaries have passed on without getting their land back or even being compensated.
