The Independent Electoral Commission IEC in Limpopo has disqualified certain candidates from various political parties who intended to contest the upcoming by-elections in the dissolved Thabazimbi Local Municipality. These disqualified candidates were unable to meet the necessary requirements set by the IEC.
The by-elections are scheduled to take place next Wednesday, with a total of 21 political parties and five independent candidates now confirmed to be competing in the elections.
According to Provincial Electoral Officer Nkaro Mateta, the disqualified candidates were ruled out due to non-compliance with the required criteria.
The Thabazimbi Local Municipality was dissolved last month due to political and administrative instability, prompting the need for these by-elections.
In total, 405 candidates from various political parties, alongside five independent candidates, will contest the elections. Among them, 214 candidates are male, and the remaining 191 candidates are female.
