SkyTeam has signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU with Italian rail operator Trenitalia to offer passengers the option to combine air and rail travel in a single reservation.

The agreement follows SkyTeams recent partnership with Eurostar , which became the first official non-airline partner.

Italy is an important global market for business and leisure travellers, and Trenitalia customers will have more choice and flexibility to go where they want to, how they want, while enjoying the many benefits for which SkyTeam is known, said Patrick Roux , CEO of SkyTeam.

Once the agreement is implemented, SkyTeam frequent flyers will be able to earn and redeem miles on eligible Frecciarossa rail journeys, while Trenitalias CartaFRECCIA loyalty programme members will have the same opportunity on SkyTeam flights. SkyPriority services will also be extended to railway stations where possible, benefiting SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus members, as well as CartaFRECCIA Platinum and Gold members.

Currently, 14 SkyTeam member airlines serve Italy from markets in Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Greater China. Trenitalia operates direct rail services to and from 23 Italian airports, including SkyTeams hub at Rome Fiumicino. The Frecciarossa network covers 150 destinations in Italy, with over 270 daily connections, and also operates in Spain and France.
