The Special Investigation Unit SIU has raided the offices of the Dawid Kruiper Municipality in Upington, Northern Cape, as part of an investigation into procurement processes and around 24 municipal contracts.
The raid aimed to collect evidence dating from January 1, 2010 to September 2024.
SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago confirmed that the unit also seized officials cell phones during the operation.
The SIU has reason to believe that the normal route of requesting information and documents would not have yielded positive results, hence it was deemed necessary to approach the court for a search and seizure warrant, Kganyago explained.
The collected documents and computers will assist in the ongoing investigation, adds the SIU.
