Shoprite Opens Bursary Applications - With Job Offer Upon Graduation
The Shoprite Group has opened a new round of bursary applications for 2025 and 2026 academic years - and it will offer jobs to successful applicants upon graduation.
The comprehensive bursary programme covers tuition and accommodation, the retail group said in a statement on Tuesday 4 February. Additionally, successful applicants will get a monthly grocery allowance and get access to the groups Employee Wellness programme.
Shoprite bursary applications for 2025-2026Shoprite invited students enrolled for degrees in the following fields to apply for its latest bursaries:
- Accounting
- Biological and Agricultural Sciences
- Logistics and Supply Chain
- Retail Business Management
- Food Sciences
Applications opened on 1 February and the closing date is 30 April 2025 except for Accounting, whose deadline is 30 September 2025.

In the previous financial year, Shoprite spent more than R19 million in its bursary programme, benefitting 230 students.
One of them is 24-year-old Atlegang Mpa from Johannesburg, who joined the group last year as a Trainee Accountant. The retailer funded her Bachelor of Accounting Science degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of the Witwatersrand.
"I was looking for a bursary that would allow me to complete my articles outside of audit, while offering strong support. The Shoprite Group's bursary programme provided both the opportunities and the guidance I needed," she said.
Mapaseka Mashabela, 27, from Mooiplaas in Pretoria, similarly joined in 2021 after receiving funding for her diploma in Retail Business Management and advanced diploma in Management from the Vaal University of Technology . Her journey has taken her from Trainee Manager to her current role as Fresh Foods Manager in the Gauteng division.
