The Sustainable Seychelles Certification Programme launched by the archipelagos Department of Tourism, has extended its programme to include restaurants and tour operators in addition to hotels.
The expansion of the programme aims to further embed sustainability practices in the local tourism sector, according to the Department. Seychelles tourism recently presented the expansion to its partners.
Paul Lebon , Director General for Destination Planning and Development at the Tourism Department, explained that this is a voluntary programme to recognise and promote sustainable practices across the industry.
The programme helps organisations reduce operational costs through efficient resource management while also attracting sustainability-minded travellers.
In order to qualify for the certification, restaurants and tour operators must meet 24 criteria to show that they are committed to sustainable business practices. This is a set of standards focusing on management, waste, water, energy, staff, conservation, community and guests.
